Goal : Be in mono-screen, plug a second screen, restart X, dual-screen with wide desktop is automaticaly created. Warning : I hope this solution will work for everybody with the new xorg and xrandr installed. But it was only tested on Kubuntu Jaunty 9.04 with an ATI
The trick is to make a simple script that auto-detect connected screens at X startup. With gnome, don’t use Autostart but your equivalent system.
Add the dual-screen automation (with chmod +x) in ~/.kde/Autostart
